Howl-o-ween 2015
It was a dark and stormy night in Seattle… So not very many trick-or-treater’s came by Mom-mom’s house for candy, even though she had bought the giant economy size box. And the lack of visitors was a shame because Mongo was wearing a very exciting Halloween costume. After trying on several different costumes, like a dragon or a soccer player, Dad decided that a cloth costume was not going to work. Poor Mongo tripped on the soccer jersey sleeves, and looked very unhappy. And the dragon head flopped over Mongo’s head, making it very hard for him to see, so he bumped into walls and furniture.
So Dad got on the internet and found the things he would need to make a really cool costume for Mongo.

Going for a Walk with Some Ducks
As Dad turned the corner out of the school yard, with his two charges in tow, he heard a duck quacking. Puzzled by this unusual sound, he began to scan the road around him, and then he saw it.
Almost directly across from him was a momma duck and a duckling. They were walking along the shoulder of the road, with Momma busily quacking. Where they had come from was not obvious to Dad, but wherever they were going, Momma seemed very determined to get there.

Around the World in a 1930 Sedan
Dad was thundering around a corner in West Seattle on a training run, when he noticed an unusual automobile parked in the driveway of one of the homes along the street. Though Dad is an accomplished foot racer, and very dedicated to his training, but just like Mongo, he is also known for almost never passing up the opportunity for a quick break from his cardio training to investigate something unusual along his route.
Here was a 1930’s sedan with all kinds of custom paint along its sides. This was just too good to pass up. Dad stopped and looked it over, particularly since Dad really enjoys unique old automobiles. (Click HERE to see pictures from Dad’s recent visit to the Port Orchard car show.)
The name of the driver on the car was Heidi Hetzer. The car itself appeared to be christened “Hudo”. Dad made a note to look into this mystery further on the internet. Read More…
Enjoying Summer
Here is a picture of Mongo enjoying a stick, the sun, and the scents of summer afternoon in Seattle. It is the simple things in life that make his day.
Summer Fair in West Seattle
One of the traditions in the Seattle area is Seafair. Seafair is not one event, but an entire series of events and festivals in various neighborhoods that stretch over a month in the summer, culminating in the hydroplane races on Lake Washington and the Boeing Airshow. And while the big events like the Torchlight Parade are held in downtown, most communities host their own celebrations on one of the weekends of July. Tour de Terrace in Mountlake Terrace was the weekend of July 25th, and White Center Jubilee Days was the weekend of July 18.
West Seattle held its Summer Fair on the weekend of July 18th this year as well. It featured a parade, a street fair on California Avenue, a middle eastern bazaar at the community center, and foot race down California called the Float Dodger 5K.
Honestly, what middle-aged foot-racing fan of Animal House could resist signing up for that race; certainly not Dad. When Kimi heard Dad was running in the float dodger, Kimi turned to Mom-mom and whispered conspiratorially, “Watch that he doesn’t make a move for the marching band baton when they come through. The parade scene in Animal house is one of his favorite parts.” She winked and smiled at Dad. Of course Dad did consider dressing as a Belushi Pirate for the race, as costumes are encouraged, but he wasn’t sure how the plastic sword would affect his time. Read More…
