Bath! – July 20, 2014
Mongo finally had his stitches out, and the drama from eating the rock was behind him. Now, Kimi was determined to clean him up. He had gotten pretty grimy what with his time in the vet, and not being able to be washed because of his stitches.
Mongo waked with Kimi to the shower like a condemned doggie to the gallows. He dragged his feet, and his head hung down to his knees as he entered the bathroom. But Kimi was not to be denied.
When she emerged half an hour later with her fuzzy buddy in tow, she turned to Dad and said, “He made the water run grey when I first hosed him off. Then I had to shampoo his head twice just to get it to look even vaguely white again. He was filthy.”
Mongo gazed up at Kimi with a look that said, “You make that sound like a BAD thing!”
In this case, the distinction between being filthy, or being artfully powdered with dirt, is clearly in the eyes of the beholder.
Back to the Vet – July 20, 2014
Mongo went back to his regular vet this morning to get his stitches out. The only had him in the back of the practise for a few moments, and then before you could say. “Bob’s your uncle”, he was back in Kimi’s van and ready for more adventures.
Feeling Better – July 18, 2014
Mongo is finally starting to feel up to par after his surgery. This is the first day since he left the vet that he had enough energy to chase birds in the park.
Just Because You Can Eat Something…Doesn’t Mean You Should – July 6, 2014
The plans had all been set in place, and it was time to execute them. Dad was going to Glacier School with Summit Climb, and Mongo was going to the kennel where after he was supposed to relax for a week while waiting for Dad to come off the mountain, he would have a spa day and be washed. He need a good wash, since his head was starting to look grayish, and his fur was becoming pretty greasy.
But before Dad could load his bags for Mt. Rainier, Mongo started having intestinal distress. Normally, when Mongo’s highly efficacious digestive system backs up, it means there is something very, very wrong inside. He typically passes paper towels, rubber gloves, and aluminum foil with a minimum amount of discomfort. So when he suffered explosive diarrhea at the park, it was a very bad sign.
Dad dropped Mongo off at the emergency vet. A quick x-ray showed a large object in his intestine. It looked a lot like a rock. The doc said if it didn’t move, Mongo would need surgery.
The next day’s pictures showed almost no movement. Mongo was hooked up to I.V.’s to keep him hydrated. And he was scheduled for surgery in the morning.
Sure enough, it was a rock. Maybe it had some sauce on it or something.
No matter the reason he ate it, it was out. Dad continued on to the mountain to learn about glacier travel while Mongo recuperated
Dad summitted Mt. Rainier again. Mongo set a new benchmark for eating inedible objects. And Mongo still needed a wash.
Aunt Michy Comes to Visit
Aunt Michy and Uncle Bill came to Seattle for Kimi’s graduation from the University of Oregon. Mongo and Bill became fast friends right away. Mongo even offered to share his toys with Uncle BIll.
Michy & Bill fell asleep downstairs in the TV room. Uncle Bill curled up on the couch with Mongo, and Aunt Michy got a cushion on the floor.
When Dad left for work in the morning, the three best buds were alseep in a big dog-pile.
Later that day,Aunt Michy told Dad, that she had the weirdest dream the night before. She dreamt that Mongo and she had played tug of war with her C-PAP machine. “It was so real”, she insisted. “It was like he kept pulling the mask from my face and then snapping it back at me.”
Later, Aunt Michy sent the following picture to Dad, with a text; “It was NOT a dream!”
Poor Aunt Michy. Her hose had so many holes in it that it practically whistled Yankee Doodle. Mongo figured that really cool elephant nose on Aunt Michy must be a tug-toy!
Mongo not know big hose was not toy. Mongo just pawn in game of life.
Mongo has fun in the city
Mongo went to Downtown Seattle and West Seattle today. He and Dad walked from Pioneer Square all the way to Public Market and back. Pioneer Pet Feed and Supply was closed. Sad Mongo…. But the Waterfall Park was open, and if you are quick on your feet, and your Dad is not paying attention, you can take a quick swim in the pond, before Dad can get a handle on you.
Then Dad will take you to Lincoln Park to dry off.
