What’s the Point?

Mongo is a pointing Labrador. That means not only does he retrieve, but he will find birds and hold a point over then too. But how many people had actually considered the impact on dogs when people point. Mongo is pretty good at interpreting human finger pointing, which seems easy. But according to the article below, the ability of dogs to interpret human finger pointing is a major accomplishment.

I had heard that dogs ‘got the point’ on a dog show of some sort. I think dogs are pretty smart… they know where treats come from 😉
Yes, to motivate Mongo to learn any behavior, all one needs is treats.
If Easy points then we are prepared for the worst and hope for the best :o)
Mongo is pretty good at pointing out birds, though on one trip, he pointed to a tree in the field. I readied my shot gun, and we approached the tree. I set him to flush the bird, but he just held point. I walked around him with my shotgun at the ready for a few moments. Then I realized it was an apple tree. He was pointing at some apples on a branch. I laughed out loud. He loved apples.
well then an apple for teacher mongo :o) Easy is a fab berd hunter, but he also points for empty burger boxes and traffic signs :o)
LOL!
Choppy is the worst at following a finger – I am glad she was not part of the study, or it may have come out differently!
