Where is the Panic Button?
Dad was in a pickle. He had no choice but to head back out into the storm. There was no doubt that he had messed up this time. Now he and Mongo would pay the price; which was strange because it had all started so innocuously.
Comet Falls – Mount Rainier National Park
If there is one waterfall that every visitor to Mount Rainier National Park should see, Comet Falls is it. Van Trump Creek hurtles from the lip of a lofty hanging valley, plunging in four steps flanked by lofty amphitheater cliffs of Andesite. The falls are usually cited as standing 320-feet tall, but have been measured by the Northwest Waterfall Survey as 462 feet tall if the lower pools are included.¹
The trail to Comet Falls follows a tumbling, churning, whitewater creek upstream as it thunders through a narrow gorge of glacier-polished rock on its way to a waterfall that drops 462 feet in three tiers. There are numerous small waterfalls and cascades and two significant ones to admire, all in less than two miles.
University of Washington Dawg Dash – 2015
Today was the big Dog Race of the Season in Western Washington – The U of W Dawg Dash. Mongo and Dad were ready. It was rainy this year, so that narrowed the field. Mongo was taking the races more seriously this year. He did his business before the start of the race, and only stopped for a small drink at the halfway point. Mom-mom kept Spork occupied for the duration of the race, since a two-dog race did not work out well last year. (Click HERE for details of 2014 Dawg Dash.)

At the finish Mongo enjoyed an apple, and several bananas.
Thanksgiving Day Menu at Mongo’s House
Here’s the menu for Thanksgiving dinner in Mongo’s house this year. Most of it is not “Mongo Friendly” for one or more reasons, so he did not get to partake in most of it, except for some turkey. (and a little bacon, and maybe just a bit of cheese, and perhaps just a smidgen of pie crust, and of course just a dab of whipped cream.)
Formaggi
Crackers & soft cheese/ proscuitto & rosemary grissini/ nuts

Apertivo
Bacon-wrapped/cheese-stuffed dates

Antipasto
Wild mushroom mini-tarts (Fall is chanterelle season in Washington)

Mongo did get a plate of whipped cream for dessert. He loves to hear the sound of the can. It brings him running faster than any dog whistle.

Pommes Sauvages – Redoux
Mongo had finished all the apples again. Dad and he were finishing a walk back from the school, when Dad led him over to the apple tree again. Mongo just stared at Dad reluctantly as Dad leapt over the bar ditch once again.
“It’s OK buddy. It’s pitch black and rainy. There won’t be any yellow jackets around tonight.” Hubris hung heavy in the air.
Pommes Sauvages – Continued
Mongo learns quickly, maybe quicker than Dad. They was almost out of apples at the house. As Dad, Spork, and Mongo exited the school yard, they crossed the road to the wild apple tree. Dad dropped the leashes and leapt over the bar ditch to the base of the tree. He turned around to look behind him.
Mongo stood on the other side of the road, giving Dad a dubious look that said, “No way, Jose!”
“Not taking any chances with yellow jackets, eh buddy?” Dad began to gather apples. Read More…
