Time for Divine Intervention?

Heidi is still in Cape Town.  Hudo is still in the shop.  Heidi has posted this picture of this church spire in Cape Town.

Cycle Training

Dad signed up for the Kitsap Color Classic group cycle ride with the Cascade Bicycle Club.  Dad enjoys the club’s group rides.  The people are friendly, the courses are interesting, and the huge numbers of bicycles on the road (more than a thousand) guarantees that motorists will take notice.  But the past few weeks had been very busy for Dad, and he had not had time to train for the ride.  So he figured he should at least get some riding in the weekend before the ride.   Read More…

Total Chaos and Fur Underwear

It was rainy and cold outside.  Dad was getting ready to make a quick dash out to the store.

The trash was full, so Dad grabbed the bag from the bin and changed it out.  He turned and stood holding the trash bag while out the door at the sheets of rain pouring from the dark skies, and decided not to take the trash to the right then.  He’d take his chances that the weather would be better when he got back.  Dad left the bag by the back door and threw on his water-resistant climbing hoodie and bolted for the car.

And so Dad left Mongo sitting home alone with a big bag full of egg shells, coffee grounds, and bacon soaked paper towels.

Organic Warfare

Dad and Mongo live next to a nice couple who have an aipiary in their back yard.  Dad respects their efforts to raise bees, and aside from occasionally visiting Dad’s kitchen uninvited, the bees don’t cause any problems.

And the bees help pollinate Dad’s tomatoes, so they are generally welcomed visitors.  However, once again unwelcomed visitors, aphids (BOO!) had taken up residence on Dad’s tomato and basil plants.

So to do his part in helping his neighbors safely raise bees, and combat CCD (Colony Collapse Disorder), Dad decided to try organic pest control this year. He reasoned that it was better for the environment, and better for Mongo, who is known to eat anything he can fit down his gullet.  Dad was sure that pesticide coated vegetables would go down just as quick as anything else.
